Blast injures two in southern Turkey anti-coup protest

04 August 2016 [11:43] - TODAY.AZ

At least two people were slightly injured in an explosion in southern Turkey as they were protesting the July 15 coup attempt late Wednesday.

The blast happened near Cumhuriyet Square in Antalya province, the governor's office said in a statement, adding that the injured have been hospitalized.

"It seems to be an improvised explosive device," provincial police chief Cemil Tonbul said.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Turkish citizens have been keeping "democracy watch" across the country since the putsch attempt. Protests are expected to end with a major Aug 7 rally in Istanbul announced last week by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
