15 September 2015 [15:55] - TODAY.AZ

Uzbekistan’s Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Elyor Ganiev and head of Iran’s diplomatic mission in Tashkent Ali Mardani discussed the issues of developing the trade sphere, said the message from Uzbekistan’s Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current status and prospects for expanding the mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of trade, as well as transport and transit, said the ministry.

They focused on the issues related to the practical implementation of the agreements reached after the 11th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation held in June 2015 in Tashkent.

Lift of economic sanctions imposed on Iran, as well as development of new transport corridors will allow to bring the trade turnover between the two countries to $1 billion, according to Iranian diplomatic mission.

The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Iran exceeded $250 million as of 2014, according to Iran’s embassy.

The governments of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman signed a memorandum in August 2014 on validating the agreement on creating Central Asia-Persian Gulf transport corridor.

It is expected that this transport and transit corridor will consist of a railway linking Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran, as well as a sea route from Iran’s Bandar Abbas and Chabahar ports to Omani ports.
