After visit to regional countries, Iran’s top diplomat Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to his country’s traditional ally Russia.

During the meeting with his Russian counterpart in Moscow on August 17, the sides discussed the bilateral relations, Iran-Russia nuclear cooperation as well as the regional and international issues on the agenda.

Sergey Lavrov said Russia and Iran have every opportunity for a new, more advanced quality of relations, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

He said there are all the possibilities to fill the Russian-Iranian relations with a new quality, even more advanced one in the spirit of agreements that have been reached between the two presidents, in the spirit of the decisions that have been made in order to resolve the Iranian nuclear program.

Zarif, for his part, called for reinforcement of all-out mutual relations, voicing hope that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action inked between Iran and P5+1 would facilitate reinforcement of Iran-Russia relations.

He stressed that Tehran and Moscow would continue their cooperation in regional and global arenas.

Lavrov further said Russia is interested in enhancing cooperation with Iran to settle crises in the Middle East and North Africa.

“Our countries are constructively cooperating in all areas both in bilateral affairs and on international arena. We have a very intensive dialogue at highest levels, and close consultations have been established between our ministries,” he said.

Nuclear cooperation between the two countries was one of the main issues of discussion during the meeting.

Zarif said Iran and Russia will cooperate on the Fordo nuclear facility.

“There are agreements on nuclear area, which we’ll be implementing in line with the Vienna deal, including the ones on isotope production,” said Zarif after meeting with Lavrov.

He added that the two countries would cooperate in line with the agreement on the Fordo facility.

Russia and Iran have agreed to speed up the agreement on a document on the facilitation of the visa regime between the two countries.

Russian foreign minister also intends to make a trip to Iran.

Lavrov also noted that the next meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission of Russia and Iran for trade and economic cooperation would take place in autumn.
