G8 decides urgent transitional govt for Syria

Russia and its G8 partners have forged a joint declaration on the civil war in Syria, dpa reported.

A transitional government with executive powers should be agreed as quickly as possible, sources at the G8 summit in Northern Ireland say.

The declaration makes no reference to the future role of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
