Georgia, Armenia agree on joint use of land border checkpoints

Georgia and Armenia have formalized an agreement on joint use of the land border checkpoints. It was signed by Georgian and Armenian finance ministers Nodar Khaduri and Vache Gabrielyan in Yerevan.

The agreement on joint use of the land border checkpoints "Sadakhlo-Bagratashen", "Sadakhlo-Ayrum", "Guguti-Gogavan" and "Ninotsminda-Bavra" between the Georgian and Armenian governments was signed during Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili's official visit to Armenia.

The document envisages the simplification of customs procedures, connected with commercial cargo crossing the border and improvement of customs control. The agreement envisages the preliminary electronic exchange necessary for the general declaration of information. This will reduce the mandatory measures of customs control and the policy of providing the countries' customs with the different information. The agreement does not prohibit the customs control. In case of suspicion, the country's customs will be able to control the cargo.

The Georgian Finance Ministry believes that joint use of checkpoints between Georgia and Armenia promotes the effective management of checkpoints, increases traffic and intensifies the trade and economic relations between the countries.
