Ahmadinejad criticizes closing cinemas and restaurants

16 July 2012 [18:07] - TODAY.AZ
The police must provide people with the right choice instead of closing restaurants and cinemas, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said while presenting new textbooks for junior schools today, the Mehr news agency said today.

"If the textbooks contain information about Iran's national cuisine, national customs, traditions and culture, then people can make their choice," he said. "We will not witness closing the restaurants, cinemas or certain ceremonies banned by the police."

The police have been recently conducting the raids in Tehran and other cities, checking bearing the hijab due to hot weather in Iran. More than 130 women were arrested during the raids conducted on Sunday.

About 79 cafes and restaurants permitting women to smoke a hookah were closed.

If one carries out appropriate enlightenment work among the population, it will make the choice, Ahmadinejad said.
