'No preconditions in upcoming nuclear talks with Iran'

27 April 2012 [10:34] - TODAY.AZ
It is clear that there are no preconditions regarding the next round of negotiations between Iran and the Six powers, EU Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton's Chief Spokesperson Michael Mann told Trend.

Baghdad is getting ready to host the next round of "Iran-Six powers" nuclear negotiations on May 23. The prior meeting of the parties was hosted in Turkey's Istanbul on April 14.

"Over the next few weeks our people will talk to the Iranians to work out an agenda for the upcoming meeting. This is an open meeting, so there are no preconditions", Mann said.

Earlier this month, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has stressed that Tehran will not accept any preconditions for the negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the world's six major powers (P5+1), expressing hope that a new round of talks would yield win-win results.

Later Salehi outlined his country's message in an interview with ISNA, saying that "if the West wants to build trust, it should begin with sanctions, because it can help speed up the talks reaching a solution".

Speaking about the security concerns regarding the Baghdad meeting, Michael Mann said the European side doesn't have any.

"All security issues are being taken cared of before we go. We had people in Baghdad last week and there are plenty of facilities there. It is not an issue as far as we are concerned," he noted. "We wouldn't go there, if there were any security concerns".
