Iran eyes removing embargoes on its oil and banking system

16 April 2012 [10:32] - TODAY.AZ
The head of National Security Council and Foreign Policy Commission of parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that Iran will talk with world major powers on the issue of cancelling the sanctions imposed on Iranian banking system and crude oil purchases by other countries, Fars News Agency reported.

The first round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and 5+1 countries including the U.S., UK, France, Russia, China + Germany was held in Istanbul on April 14.

Both sides named the talks "positive" and promised to keep the second round of negotiations on May 23 in Baghdad.

Boroujerdi called the negotiations "good and a step forward", saying during the second round of negotiations the issue of eliminating embargoes on Iranian banking system and oil export will be discussed.

The European Union imposed ban on Iranian oil import on Jan.23, which be effective in July 1.

The U.S. President Barack Obama has placed stricter sanctions on Iran's government, including its central bank on Feburary.

The new US sanctions include blocks on the Central Bank of Iran, imposed "in light of the

deceptive practices" of the bank to conceal transactions already banned by previous sanctions.

The P5+1 spearheaded the diplomatic efforts to persuade Iran to limit its nuclear program, which Iran say is purely peaceful while UN and Western leaders suspect of military purposes.

So far, The UNSC has adopted four rounds of sanctions, inside of the U.S. and the European Union's tightened sanctions imposed to Iran, intended to halt Iran's nuclear program which is suspected to have military dimensions.
