Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday said that Turkey assured them that it would not take a unilateral step on Syria.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem in Moscow, Lavrov said that he held a phone conversation with his Turkish colleague Ahmet Davutoglu and was assured that Turkey would not act unilaterally on Syria.
Lavrov's comments came after certain reports that Turkey would wait for a few days if the Kofi Annan Plan on Syria failed and would decide accordingly.
Turkey is a soverign country and has the right to make a decision within its borders. The UN Refugee Agency must be able to enter the refugee camps in Turkey. It is crucial for us to learn what type of assistance the refugees need in Turkey, Lavrov stressed.
