The sanctions imposed against Iran are a personal initiative of the U.S. and EU, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said in an interview with the Turkish Anadolu agency.
Yildiz stressed that sanctions imposed against Iran do not oblige Turkey to do anything from the juridical point of view. "Turkey only accepts UN's decision on sanctions imposed on Iran. For us it is a decisive factor," Yildiz stressed.
The EU formally imposed an oil embargo on Iran and agreed to a freeze on the assets of the Iranian Central Bank on January 23, but existing contracts will be honored until July 1.
