Despite a two-day snowfall throughout Georgia, passenger trains run on the country without interruption, Ltd. Georgian Railway told Trend on Thursday. According to the report, a team consisting of 300 people, who control activity of the entire main line, operates in a 24-hour mode in order to avoid delay of trains.
Of these, 100 people were mobilized to the most difficult section of the railway - Rikotsky pass (connects the eastern and western parts of Georgia).
At the same equipment, including jet snowplows and snow-removal machines that clean rails and point switches from snow.
"Due to bad weather conditions, problems occurred with motorways, therefore, we offer passengers to use railway services," Georgian Railway said.
Tbilisi International Airport also operates without interruption. All flights are carried out without delay, the airport told Trend on Thursday.
"Despite the heavy snow, runways are regularly cleaned at the airport, a special equipment is mobilized. Visibility is normal and therefore all flights are carried out without delay," the airport said.
Meanwhile, traffic on Georgia's highways is normal, except for Jvari pass connecting Georgia with Russia. There are restrictions on semitrailers and trailers on a number of roads in Georgia. Due to bad weather accidents are frequent on the roads. Yesterday, a similar accident resulted in death of a man after five cars collided in western Georgia.
Since mid-January Georgia has observed cold weather, it snows periodically, complicating traffic on the roads. In Tbilisi, snow cover exceeds 10 centimetres. It reached one meter in the regions.
