Georgia records annual inflation at 2 percent

The inflation rate was 2.0 percent in Georgia in December 2011 compared to December 2010. The Georgian Statistics Agency told Trend that the change in prices in the below-mentioned groups affected the formation of this index during the 12-month period:

Transport: prices increased by 14.6 percent. Accordingly, the share of the group in the annual inflation was 1.4 percentage points. In this group, a significant increase in prices was registered for civil automobile transport - 22.4 percent; a subgroup of transport services - 22.12 percent; and, a subgroup of fuel and engine oil - 10.0 percent;

Food and soft drinks: the prices increased by 0.9 percent during the reporting period and the share of the group in the annual inflation amounted to 0.4 percentage points; The prices on meat and meat products increased markedly by 21.9 percent; Milk, cheese and eggs - 6.5 percent; and, fish - 5.4 percent. The prices on fruit and grapes decreased by 28.6 percent, but vegetables and potatoes decreased by 11.8 percent.
