State-run Anatolia news agency reported that fire had started in the single-floor house of Ahmet Recber in Kızılkese village of Vezirkopru district. Residents in the area tried to extinguish fire but failed to prevent it from spreading to to other houses.
Fire fighters from Vezirkopru, Havza districts and Duragan and Boyabat districts of Sinop province were dispatched to the area but the vehicles had difficulty to reach houses on fire because of narrow streets.
In five hours, the fire fighters extinguished the flames that burned at least 24 adjacent houses and several stables. The report said many cows and sheep are feared killed during the fire.
While some victims had to spend the night in village's mosques, others stayed in houses of their neighbors. State disaster agencies sent pillow and tents to the area.
