Georgian Parliament adopted the final amendments to the Constitution unanimously, by 114 votes, on Tuesday. The amendments envisage an increase in a level for a constitutional majority, granting voting rights to those convicted because of less serious crimes.
Under the amendments, a level for a constitutional majority raises from 2/3 to 3/4 of full list of the parliament. In addition, the distribution of MP seats changes - 77 MPs will be elected on proportional system and 73 - on majoritarian system.
So far, MP seats were distributed equally. With regard to providing those convicted due to less serious crimes with voting rights, it was one of the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
