
At the University of Patras - the third city on population of Greece, the embassy of the Azerbaijan Republic in Greece together with University administration held an action for establishment for students an Award after Heydar Aliyev for the best scientific work in the field of studying Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani-Greek relations.
Greeting the students, the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Greece Rahman Mustafayev spoke of the life of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, his activity on important state posts - as the head of the Soviet Azerbaijan, one of heads of the government of the former USSR, the president of independent Azerbaijan in 1993-2003s.
The Azerbaijani ambassador also noted that the goal of the mentioned project is assistance to deeper studying by the Greek students of history, culture, internal and foreign policy of Azerbaijan, its energy strategy, various aspects of bilateral Azerbaijani-Greek relations. Addressing the meeting, vice-rector of university, Professor Dimitrios Kalpaksis, the secretary of organizing committee on carrying out of competition Giorgos Pavlidis and other teachers welcomed establishment of the said Award and underlined great importance of the mentioned project for rapprochement of two countries, developments of scientific communications between their universities.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan answered questions of teachers and students, and then it was demonstrated a film about Azerbaijan. Also books and magazines about Azerbaijan were gifted to the University`s library.
Along with the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki the Patras University is one of leading educational institutions of Greece. And on indicator of quantity of the published scientific works the University confidently wins first place in the country. About 28 thousand students study at this University with five faculties. It prepares specialists on 24 masters and 23 doctor`s specialties.
The Embassy officials noted that the said project was founded as long-term, envisioned for some years. It will be realized through carrying out all-university competition of scientific works and theses, of which, 6 winners will receive every year Heydar Aliyev Award. The first competition is to be summed up on May, 10, 2012.
