
An international conference entitled “Twentieth Year of Independence: Successes Achieved and Challenges Faced on the Way to the Progressive, Fair and Dynamic State Building,” has today started in Baku. The event is organized by Center for Strategic Studies under President of Azerbaijan (SAM) and the UN Development Program (UNDP).
The conference will see discussions on a wide range of issues, including achievements gained by Azerbaijan over the past 20 years, socio-political, economic and cultural reforms, economic growth, poverty reduction, oil strategy, improvement of the transport infrastructure, equal participation of women in the society, productive agribusiness in diversified economy, balance between economic growth and environmental protection, creation of job places in the globalization and competitive economy, tourism – main power of diversification.
Deputy Director of SAM Gulshan Pashayeva told of significance of the event. Chief of Azerbaijan`s Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev and UN resident-coordinator in Azerbaijan Fikrat Akchura made the speeches.
The conference has been followed by the panel discussions on the subjects “The twenty-year achievements”, “Purposes of the next decade” and “Answer to the challenges”. The event brought together the officials of the government and state, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations, workers of science and education, local and foreign experts and journalists.
