European Commissioner says Azerbaijan achieved number of successes

Azerbaijan has recently made a number of successes, said Vice President of the European Commission, Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas. He met Azerbaijan`s parliament speaker Ogtay Asadov.

Kallas said Azerbaijan made tremendous achievements in global energy and transport projects.  He noted the win in Eurovision song contest was one of Azerbaijan`s major achievements.  He praised Azerbaijan`s becoming a member of the UN Security Council, saying it testified to the country`s growing international image.

Asadov said cooperation with the European Union is one of the priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.  “We are looking forward for further extension of cooperation with the European Commission. Earlier our relations were limited to assistances we received from the European Union, but now our relations have reached the level of effective cooperation.”
Speaker Asadov said Azerbaijan is integrating into the European institutions and is an initiator and active participant of global projects.

On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said “the delay in settlement of the problem threatens energy and transport corridors, which are important for Europe, and hampers the integration processes”.
