‘Turkish-Armenian border will not be opened unless Nagorno Karabakh conflict is resolved’

The Turkish-Armenian border will not be opened unless the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is resolved, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Volkan Bozkir said at a meeting with Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov.

Bozkir also noted the Zurich protocols would not be discussed at the International Relations Committee as long as the Nagorno Karabakh conflict still remains unresolved.

He said the level of Turkey-Azerbaijan brotherhood proves that “we are really one nation, two states.” He congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the 20th anniversary of restoration of the country`s independence. “Azerbaijan`s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is a gift to this jubilee.”

Bozkir also thanked the Azerbaijani government for the care and attention to those who suffered as a result of the earthquake in Van province. He also noted the Turkish people was very happy with Azerbaijan`s development.

Ogtay Asadov, in turn, said relationship between the two countries was developing in all spheres. He added Azerbaijan-Turkey friendship was an example for other countries.

The Speaker said about 170 documents were signed between the two countries. He also recalled the Joint Declaration on establishment of Azerbaijan-Turkey High Level Strategic Cooperation Council signed between President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Speaker also praised the level of interparliamentary ties, underlining fruitful cooperation between the two countries` MPs in international organizations.

On the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Speaker said “we believe that the problem will soon be resolved due to President Ilham Aliyev`s wise policy and with support of Turkey.”
