President Ilham Aliyev holds official meetings - PHOTOS - UPDATE

Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev received Tuesday Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, UNWTO.

Rifai thanked President Aliyev for good conditions created in Azerbaijan for development of the tourism sector. He underscored the importance of Azerbaijan`s election as vice-president of UNWTO on Europe at a meeting of the organisation`s General Assembly held in Korea. Rifai presented an invitation letter of UNWTO to President Aliyev on Azerbaijan`s joining the “Golden book” movement of the organisation.

President Ilham Aliyev said 2011 was declared the year of tourism in Azerbaijan. He added development of the tourism sector in Azerbaijan was one of the priorities of the government. The Head of State said efforts to create the most modern and attractive tourism infrastructure in Azerbaijan would increase.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday received the delegation led by First Vice President of the European Commission, high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy Catherine Ashton.

The Head of State said there was multifaceted cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, adding relations between the country and the Union were developing successfully.

The Azerbaijani leader recalled a meeting with Catherine Ashton in Warsaw. The President stressed the importance of Ashton`s visit to the region and Azerbaijan.

The Head of State underscored Catherine Ashton`s visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to developing relationship between the country and European Union even more.

The First Vice President of the European Commission, high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy expressed satisfaction with her visit to Azerbaijan
During the meeting, they discussed prospects for energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and European Union.

They also exchanged views on the ways of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received today chairman of House of Representatives of National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreychenko. Andreychenko expressed satisfaction with the reliable and sincere friendly relationship between Azerbaijan and Belarus.

He praised the ongoing great reconstruction work in Baku. He also noted accomplishments in Azerbaijan impressed him very much.

President Ilham Aliyev said successful political cooperation existed between Azerbaijan and Belarus. The Head of State underlined the importance of reciprocal visits in expansion of bilateral relationship.

President Aliyev also noted Andreychenko`s visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to strengthening interparliamentary ties.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received Special Envoy of the United States Secretary of State for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar The meeting focused on US-Azerbaijan bilateral relations and prospects for energy cooperation.

During the conversation, Morningstar welcomed the Azerbaijan-Turkey agreement on energy cooperation.
