Conference “The role of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and civil society bodies in the integration into European Union” takes place in Baku

Conference on the theme “The role of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and civil society bodies in the integration into the European Union” was held in Baku. Making a keynote speech, chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament’s committee for legal policy and statehood Ali Huseynli said the integration into Europe is the choice of Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan gives preference to the model of development of the European Union countries,” he said.

Ali Huseynli said the conference is the first event after the Warsaw summit of the Eastern Partnership program on September 29-30. “By holding his event Azerbaijan fulfills the commitments undertaken at the Warsaw summit,” he said.

Head of Azerbaijani delegation to Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, chairman of the Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan Elkhan Suleymanov also said integration into the European Union was one of the major goals of Azerbaijan, improvement had been made in this direction.
“The relations between Azerbaijan and EU have developed in the past 20 years,” he said.

Elkhan Suleymanov said Euronest Parliamentary Assembly offers platform to the Eastern Partnership countries to inform the world community about their problems and Azerbaijan can also voice Nagorno Karabakh problem from this platform.

President of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation George Zarubin said Euronest PA also offers opportunities for Azerbaijan to integrate into Europe in the sphere of legislation.

Secretary of the Azerbaijani delegation to Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Vugar Mammadov made a speech on the theme “Euronest: Azerbaijan’s activity, opportunities for cooperation with the civil society institutions”, member of the Azerbaijani Lawyers’ Confederation Sahib Mammadov on the theme “Dialogue between the civil society institutions and government agencies in the integration into the European Union”.

The event was continued with discussions.
