Russian, Jewish communities of Azerbaijan appeal to Russian president

The Russian and Jewish communities of Azerbaijan appealed to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Director General of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Oleg Dobrodeev on TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov's abusive attacks on Azerbaijan.

"Insulting remarks against Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani people were voiced at the 'Morning with Vladimir Solovyov. Full contact' show broadcasted on Vesti FM radio station on Nov.1," the letter, undersigned by Azerbaijani MPs Mikhail Zabelin and Evda Abramov, reads.

The letter reads that Solovyov, violating all norms of journalistic ethics, named the Azerbaijanis as 'a party, for whom a drop of Armenian blood is the subject of wild and inhuman hatred."

In response to the quite fair disturbance of audience-Azerbaijanis, Solovyov called them "scum" who dared to "open their dirty mouth against the Russian citizens', the letter reads. He tried to portray Azerbaijan as "a racist country", openly called for boycott of Azerbaijanis and their business, the letter reads.

"Solovyov, who is also a member of the Presidium of the Russian Jewish Congress, ventured to compare the Azerbaijanis' attitude against Armenians with 'Holocaust' and the 'tragedy of the Jewish people'. We, as the representatives of Russian and Jewish communities of Azerbaijan, express their protest against Solovyov's behavior and insults address to the multinational people of Azerbaijan. We believe blaming the country, where dozens of nations live in peace and friendship, in racism is blasphemy," the letter reads.

There is no doubt that such a provocation aimed at worsening neighborly relations between the two countries, the letter reads.

The particularly disappointing fact is that the offensive language, overtly extremist calls for incitement of ethnic hatred was heard on the radio station that is a part of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.

"In this regard, we ask you to take action against 'journalist' allowing insulting the Azerbaijani people. We hope that the forces trying to play the anti-Azerbaijani card and split the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia will get a rebuff," the letter reads.
