Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva yesterday met Mehmet Kaplan, head of the Green Party`s group at the Swedish Parliament. Pashayeva, who is a member of Azerbaijan`s delegation to the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, highlighted the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. She said 20 per cent of Azerbaijan`s lands were occupied by Armenia, with million Azerbaijanis becoming refugees and IDPs. She said the conflict saw the destruction of Azerbaijan`s historical, cultural and religious monuments in the occupied territories. Pashayeva expressed her regret over the fact that international organizations` resolutions demanding an unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s lands still remain unfulfilled.
The MP called Sweden to increase efforts towards contributing to finding a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Pashayeva thanked Kaplan for preparing a draft resolution on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which had already been submitted to the Swedish parliament.
Kaplan stressed the importance of increasing efforts towards ending “the injustice – the occupation by Armenia of Azerbaijan`s lands”.
Pashayeva also highlighted Azerbaijan`s economic and foreign policy achievements, as well as the country`s European integration.
