
The first day of International Humanitarian Forum on the "XXI century: hopes and challenges" has ended with a third plenary meeting. Speaking to the meeting, president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Mahmud Karimov, said Azerbaijan was hosting international events to discuss problems of inter-cultural integration and dialogue. Karimov stressed the importance of the forum, saying: “One of its unique ideas is to approach to the issues of the agenda from a humanitarian point of view.” “The forum is aimed at discussing ways of building the socio-cultural life of the society on humanitarian principles.”
Director general of Russia`s information agency ITAR-TASS, Vitaly Ignatenko, said the forum addressed critical issues of nowadays. Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of Bilkent University Ali Dogramaci thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for the “well-organized forum”. Dogramaci emphasized the significance of applying advanced technologies to “achieve the goals we set”.
Chairman of the Russia-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, rector of Russian State Humanitarian University, Yefim Pivovar, noted the importance of developing education in terms of deepening relations among countries and peoples. The Russian President`s special representative for international cultural cooperation, Mikhail Shvydkoy, praised the forum, saying it was remarkable that scientists and experts from around the world came together to discuss humanitarian problems.
Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of the Turkish speaking states, Halil Akinci, said regional and international organizations were playing more important role in defining common interests and preserving global peace and security. Correspondent member at the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Kovalchuk stressed the necessity of putting forward new development ideas.
Academician at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Konstantin Skryabin, praised the organization of the forum. He expressed confidence it would be “a success in addressing topical issues of nowadays”.
The forum will continue its work in panel discussions on Tuesday.
