Azerbaijani Defense Minister receives European Union Special Representative for South Caucasus

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev has received today European Union’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.

Press service of the Defense Ministry said that during the meeting the minister spoke about Azerbaijan’s close relations and military cooperation with Europe after reaching its independence.

Abiyev also informed the guest about the intensive military and political situation in the region, the reasons which created conditions to the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, expelling one million of Azerbaijanis from their homes and the other problems. The Defense Minister said that the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group had not yielded its fruit and the double standards existed against Azerbaijan today. He informed the guest about non-fulfillment of 4 resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council and expressed hope that the EU will increase its efforts in the conflict’s settlement.
