Georgia to host conference on 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan's independence

Georgia will host a conference and round table dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, a source at the State Committee for Diaspora told Trend on Thursday.

The initiative to hold a conference on 20th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence and a round table on topic "Integration of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia into the local community in the context of the Azerbaijani-Georgian strategic partnership" was made by the State Committee for Diaspora. The State Committee will organize the event in Batumi on Aug. 28-29.

The event is supposed to be attended by Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Chief Ali Hasanov, Chairman of the State Committee for Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, as well as MPs, representatives of ministries, diplomats and heads of Georgian NGOs.

During the conference, reports will be delivered on Azerbaijan's role in South Caucasus, which has strengthened as a result of changes in the country over the past 20 years. The round table will focus on the issue of integration of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia into country's public life. Documentary films will be displayed and cultural events will be conducted as part of the conference and round table.

About 30 Azerbaijani and Georgian media outlets are expected to attend the events.
