Azerbaijan's ruling party believes that the results of the presidents’ Kazan meeting form a basis for the next stage of the negotiation process.
"The presidents’ Kazan meeting was important and it forms a basis for the next stage of the negotiation process. This meeting’s echoes will show up in the subsequent stages. I think the Kazan meeting ended with a certain result," Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli said.
Gurbanli said a joint statement made by the presidents at the meeting especially indicates that the progress of work on coordination of the basic principles of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement was reviewed again.
"The basic principles on the conflict settlement were once again discussed in detail. Of course, Azerbaijan’s position regarding the conflict is resolute. Azerbaijan will not make any concessions related to its territorial integrity. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated it once again before the meeting in an interview with Euronews TV channel," he said.
Gurbanli said the presidents’ Kazan meeting’s result was that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries’ presidents displayed more serious and more open position on this issue.
"The fact that before the Kazan meeting the U.S. President Barack Obama telephoned President Ilham Aliyev, French President Sarkozy expressed his position on this issue once again shows that the circles patronizing Armenia are interested in resolving this conflict.
Especially France, who, seeing that its "sister" Armenia fell into a bad situation, wants to resolve the conflict by any means in order to save Armenia. The Kazan meeting actively demonstrated Azerbaijani President’s resolute and pragmatic policy.
This once again showed that Azerbaijani President will not sign any document that does not meet Azerbaijan’s interests under some pressure and from positions of the big states. Ongoing discussions, the opinions voiced on the threshold of the meeting, give reason to say that some people thought that in Kazan everything will go in accordance with Armenia’s desire.
Armenia’s desire is contrary to the norms and principles of international law. Therefore, the Azerbaijani side will never agree to it. Azerbaijan's position is fair. I believe that at the Kazan meeting President Ilham Aliyev once again demonstrated the diplomatic, moral and personal superiority.
That is, it showed that in this conflict the Armenian side plays completely the role of a tool, and Sargsyan is useless, weak figure that is unable to make some innovation in the negotiation process in the system of international relations," the NAP representative said.
The Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Dmitry Medvedev of Russia and Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia discussed the basic principles of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement on Friday in Kazan.
"The Heads of State highlighted the achievement of mutual understanding on a number of issues, the solution of which contributes to creating conditions to approve the basic principles," said the statement.
The document says that the meeting participants reviewed the activities conducted to agree upon the project of basic principles.
