"Sargsyan’s defiance towards the Council of Europe showed that this organization is not capable of responding to the real aggression"

“Armenian President’s speech at the PACE today once more showed that Sargsyan came as a person having biased position far from reality. Unfortunately, we were obliged to listen to such a speech at the European organization. Each of his words was full of hatred. I consider that it was a very important moment for us,” head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov said.

He said Serzh Sargsyan’s defiance towards the Council of Europe proves these views.

“Unfortunately, this organization is filled with double standards and is not capable of responding to the real aggression. Today we have seen this. We have witnessed threatening speech and statements with respect to the Council of Europe, its Assembly and Europe,” he said.

Explaining why the Azerbaijani delegation could not ask Serzh Sargsyan a question, Samad Seyidov attributed it to the internal procedures of PACE.

“There are five political groups at PACE and the invited guests are asked one question on behalf of each group. Today five questions were asked by these five groups again and there was one additional question, which was asked by the Armenian delegation. It is impossible to ask question on behalf of the political groups. So, as the Azerbaijani side, we have no right to ask question. Representatives of other countries asked the questions on behalf of the groups. Few questions also show that this man shrinks from the questions and there was an opportunity to ask only one question and that was asked by the Armenian”.

Seyidov said despite double standards in PACE, Azerbaijan continues to work together with this organization.

“We don’t purpose to report before any organization. We join this organization to learn valuable ideas, positions and implement those, which coincide with our interests, in our country. As time goes on, we see that this organization is filled with double standards and we are in the organization, which doesn’t observe the values declared by itself. For example, it was a decision of the PACE Bureau to establish the Subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh. But today Serzh Sargsyan defied indeed and said “what is your authority to make such decision against Armenia”. Therefore I emphasized once more that we develop Azerbaijan not to please someone. We develop Azerbaijan for Azerbaijanis”.
