Ambassador: Joint use of Gabala radar station by U.S. and Russia is not on agenda

11 June 2011 [08:45] - TODAY.AZ
The issue of joint use of Gabala radar station by the U.S. and Russia is not on the agenda, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza said on Friday.

"U.S. defense policy is clear. With our counterparts from NATO, we consider more useful the existence of independent defense systems of this type. That is, Russia and NATO should have separate systems, and it would be nice if these two systems cooperate with each other," said the ambassador.

He said it is still unknown how such cooperation will be made.

"The main reason is that this defense system is still developing and not exact. We know that the Gabala radar station is located in Azerbaijan and used by Russia. Obviously, if we are talking about the defense system, it is necessary to hold discussions with all parties related to this defense system" Bryza said.
