Visit of NATO Special Representative to Baku postponed again

10 June 2011 [11:00] - TODAY.AZ
Visit of NATO new Special Representative to South Caucasus James Appathurai to Azerbaijan scheduled on Friday morning is postponed due to unexpected strike at the airport in Brussels.

Now alternative dates are being considered, NATO press-service told Trend. It is still not clear what day the visit will take place now.

Workers from luggage handling firm went on 24-hours strike after the airport said it was switching to another company. A lot of flights are cancelled and delayed.

Appathurai was expected in Baku early Friday, the first time in the position of Special Representative. This is already the second time when the visit of NATO delegation with James Appathurai to Azerbaijan is being postponed.

Initially the visit was scheduled for March, but was cancelled due to the unforeseen developments in Libya and NATO’s role in implementing the military aspects of the UN Security Council Resolutions to protect civilians in Libya.

Appathurai, former Spokesperson of the Alliance, was appointed to the position of Special Representative in November 2010.
