Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan: The rent for Gabala radar must be raised

Baku is going to raise the rent for Gabala radar, Reuters reported quoting Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov. Azimov said Russia wants to extend the term of lease.

"We are ready to continue cooperation, but the conditions should be reviewed," he said.
Deputy Foreign Minister did not say the concrete amount required by Baku, but said the rent must be raised taking into account the increase of risks and growth of importance of Gabala radar.

Gabala radar is an important part of Russia’s missile defense system. It warns against the attacks from beyond its southern frontiers. The term of lease expires late in 2012.
