08 June 2011 [17:55] - TODAY.AZ
The judicial reforms implemented in Azerbaijan have had positive results. The entire legal system was re-created on democratic principles, Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov said at the International Conference on Administrative Law.

The international conference is being held under the joint organization of the Azerbaijani Supreme Court, the German Society for International Cooperation and the OSCE Office in Baku.

"European experts examined and improved the legislative base, regulating the court's activity," he said. "Azerbaijan has recently increased the number of civil transactions. The number of appeals to the court has been also increased."

He said about 20 regional courts were established over the last three years.

"The number of judges and the state court personnel were increased," he said. The number of district judges of Baku increased from 45 to 94, the number of judges of the Court of Appeal - from 63 to 135."

The minister said seven regional economic-administrative courts were established in Azerbaijan this year.

"The international experience was examined in legal and administrative sphere," he said. "The chairmen and judges of administrative courts were trained in foreign countries. New buildings will be built for administrative courts with the help of the World Bank. The projects have been already prepared."
