Resolution of protracted conflicts is of crucial importance from EU perspective, experts say

"The resolution of the protracted conflicts in the neighborhood is of crucial importance from an EU perspective", said experts of the EU Institute for Security Studies in the strategic review of the European Neighborhood Policy.

The ENP Strategic Review: the EU and its Neighborhood was prepared by Sabine Fischer, Senior Research Fellow at the EU Institute for Security Studies and Erwan Lannon, Professor at Ghent University.

The experts analyze the positive points of the European Neighborhood Policy program and mention the necessary measures, which have to be taken. "Where the engagement through the ENP is difficult for political reasons, like in the Abkhazia, the South Ossetia, and the Nagorno Karabakh conflicts, the EU needs to find other ways to open channels of interaction with the conflict regions and engage in confidence-building activities across conflict lines".
