Azerbaijani political parties meet with the Head of European parliament

20 May 2011 [18:14] - TODAY.AZ
Information about the April 2 events in Baku was presented to European Parliamentary President Jerzy Buzek in an exaggerated and biased way.

The representatives of several Azerbaijani political parties made this statement to the official in Baku, Ana Vatan party Chairman Fazail Agamali told Trend, commenting on a recent meeting between representatives of political parties and the head of the European Parliament.

The so-called Public Chamber, uniting some opposition parties, tried to hold an unauthorized rally on Fountain Square on April 2. The police dispersed this rally.

He said that Azerbaijan works to ensure human rights and freedom of speech. The statistics of publications in Azerbaijan testifies to the level of freedom of speech," Agamali said.

The European parliament adopted a critical resolution on human rights and democracy in Azerbaijan on May 12.

"Buzek was informed that there are still some problems in this area in Azerbaijan, but they are not so big for the European Parliament to adopt a special resolution on the human rights situation in the country," he said.

Buzek said he sees Azerbaijan as part of Europe, Agamali said.
