European Parliament hosts discussions on relations between EU and Azerbaijan

The European Parliament (EP) in Brussels hosted a conference titled "Relations between Azerbaijan and EU: dialogue between civilizations", organized by the Azerbaijan-Belgium Friendship Society under the auspices of MEP from Germany Ismail Ertug and with the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium reported on Friday.

As reporters, the conference was attended by Deputy Chairman of State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Gunduz Ismayilov, head of the intangible heritage department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Yashar Huseynli, a representative of the Caucasus Muslims Office Ziad Ahmedov, a representative of the Baku and Caspian diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church priest Methodius, Deputy head of the religious community of Mountain Jews in Azerbaijan Semen Shalmeyev, deputy head of the Baku branch of the religious community of European Jews in Azerbaijan Yevgeni Breneysen and head of Albanian-Udi Christian Community of Azerbaijan, Robert Mobili.

Azerbaijan is one of those rare places that serve as a shining example of tolerance and coexistence of different religions and civilizations, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belgium, head of representation to the EU Emin Eyubov. As a further confirmation of this thesis, the ambassador pointed to the participation of representatives of Muslim, Christian, Jewish and Albanian-Udi religious communities from Azerbaijan in this conference. Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Belgium Friendship Society Aykhan Demirchi highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and respect for different cultures and religions.

In their speeches during the conference, the reporters provided extensive information on the status of religious communities in Azerbaijan, their registration and activities, promotion of religious tolerance in accordance with the concepts of Azerbaijani National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the continuation of this policy by President Ilham Aliyev, the restoration of religious temples, with a rich history, and the important role of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation led by the UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva.
