Prime Minister Artur Rasizade: Azerbaijan focuses on social welfare

The Azerbaijani government continued working to strengthen social welfare in 2010, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade said while discussing the country's socioeconomic development last year in parliament.

He noted that the average wages grew by 9.1 percent to 325 manat. The minimum wage and basic pension also reached 85 manat.

"The basic segment of the retirement pension was increased 13 percent by presidential decree. The monthly salary of 800,000 employees working for budget organizations was also increased 10%, with social benefits for the poor increasing 20%," he said. "Roughly 336.9 million manat were also allocated to improve IDP welfare and living conditions."

The poverty level was also reduced to 9.1% last year. About 73,000 new jobs were created.
