03 December 2010 [16:27] - TODAY.AZ
The Uzbek National Exhibition, opened in Baku, today will play an important role in strengthening relations and increasing trade between the countries, Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Elyor Ganiev said at the opening ceremony.

"Today, Uzbekistan is recognized as an industrial leader in the region, while Azerbaijan is the most developing country with high rates of economic growth in the South Caucasus, Ganiyev said. Diversifying export and covering overseas markets allowed Uzbekistan to increase export by 11 percent and provide a surplus of foreign trade.

He said that Azerbaijan is an important economic partner of Uzbekistan thanks to the dynamic development.

"Today, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have great potential to increase bilateral trade and intensify economic relations. We consider the exhibition as a platform for expanding cooperation between the two countries. We are confident that this exhibition will be an important stage of cooperation and a basis for reaching agreement on signing the contracts between our countries," he said.

Azerbaijani first deputy prime minister Yagub Eyyubov, said that Uzbekistan made a lot of efforts to organize this exhibition. Such a large number of products proves once again that the two countries, two nations are friendly and fraternal.

A number of contracts were signed at the Azerbaijani exhibition in Uzbekistan on November 5-7. It will allow Azerbaijani products to be delivered to the Uzbek market, Eyyubov said. He expressed confidence that the contracts and agreements will be signed within the exhibition held in Baku. It will create conditions to form a common market between the two countries.

"The idea of organizing national exhibitions appeared when the countries realized that the existing trade turnover between them is not enough. We will try to raise this figure to a higher level", Eyyubov said.

Uzbek deputy prime minister said that these exhibitions provide a basis for long-term cooperation between the companies, enterprises of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

"Some contracts were signed in Tashkent. Some contracts will be signed today. But it is very important that we are creating a foundation for our long-term cooperative ties. It will not be limited to commercial operations. We plan to implement joint projects. We expect that this will affect the growth of trade turnover, because the Azerbaijani and Uzbek economies are developing very quickly," Ganiyev said.

The Uzbek National Exhibition will run until December 5.
