Azerbaijani ruling party marks 18th anniversary

The 18-year history of the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) is an example of devotion to National Leader Heydar Aliyev's ideas and an example of devotion to the Azerbaijani people, NAP Executive Secretary Ali Ahmadov said at an event on the party's 18th anniversary.

According to Aliyev, the formation of New Azerbaijan Party in the early 1990's was a historical necessity. Six months after the party's establishment, its founder - National Leader Heydar Aliyev came to power in Azerbaijan, and his expectations related to the party began to be realized.

Ahmedov considers election of the party's 71 members in the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan as another victory in the Party's history.

Ahmedov said NAP's main goal will be hence serving the Azerbaijani people, enhancing the country's authority in the international arena, supporting President Ilham Aliyev's policy.

He said unity of 500,000 peoples in the party mirrors NAP's authority in Azerbaijan.

New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) was established in November 1992 and its first chairman was elected Heydar Aliyev. Dec. 18, 1992 it was registered at the Ministry of Justice. The then chairman of the Party Heydar Aliyev was elected the Azerbaijani President Oct. 3, 1993. The current President Ilham Aliyev is the chairman of the Party.
