Azerbaijan has handed over a note of protest to the U.S. charged' affairs in Baku. U.S. charged’ affairs Adam Sterling was invited to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry on September 24, ministry’s spokesperson Elkhan Polukhov said.

He was commenting on Armenian media reports claiming that representative of the “parliament” of break-away Nagorno-Karabakh Ashot Gulyan met with chairman of the foreign relations committee of the U.S. Congress House of representatives Howard Berman.

“During the meeting, Sterling was handed over a note of protest against the trip the representatives of the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh authorities planed to the U.S. It was made clear at the meeting that Azerbaijan’s stance remains unchanged. The Azerbaijani side will respond to this kind of activity in the toughest way and believes that such visits are unacceptable since the United States is an OSCE Minsk Grouo co-chair,” Polukhov added.

"According to information provided by the U.S. State Department Embassy to Azerbaijan’s embassy in Washington, the U.S. side assures that the visit was private in nature and no official meetings was held with the Armenian citizen," he said.

"The American side also assured that it is committed to recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and non-recognition of any separatist entity in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan,” Polukhov said.
