Azerbaijani MP: We face anti-Azerbaijan coalition in face of Armenia and OSCE MG co-chairs

19 July 2010 [14:55] - TODAY.AZ
“Nothing extraordinary happened at Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers’ Almaty meeting as the war between the United States and Russia over influence in the South Caucasus is still going on,” member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) Fazail Agamali said commenting on Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs’ recent Almaty meeting.

The MP says realizing important geopolitical significance of this region, the U.S. wants to squeeze Russia out of the region.

"Russia is, in turn, wants to prevent the U.S. from penetrating into the region. On the other hand, Armenia is not going to abandon the policy of aggression and liberate the occupied lands of Azerbaijan. The authorities in Yerevan are unequivocally controlled by Moscow. Unfortunately, Russia does not show interest in the fair settlement to the Karabakh conflict," Agamali added.

On should not expect Armenian president and foreign minister to display constructive position in talks until Russia gives go-ahead to resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said.

"The Armenian president attaches importance only to the St. Petersburg meeting and ignores all other meetings held to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. What does it mean? I believe Azerbaijan should further strengthen its army and country's economy. Azerbaijan’s National Army must liberate the territories occupied by Armenia. We have no other way out. Azerbaijan has a right to apply force given by the UN charter which says that if a country fails to liberate its territories through talks and international mediators, it is authorized to use force in this case.”

“The talks have been held for already 18 years and it is obvious that Armenia is not going to withdraw from the occupied lands,” the MP said.

The MP believes Azerbaijan actually faces anti-Azerbaijani coalition in talks in the face of Armenia and its backers - the U.S., Russia and France. OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs side with Armenia.

"These countries do not impose sanctions on Armenia, do not distinguish between a country that committed aggression and a state that has been subject to aggression, apply double standards towards Azerbaijan, etc. Limit of confidence to the OSCE Minsk Group has long been exhausted. Now Azerbaijan is forced on the diplomatic front to resist Armenia’s annexation plans supported by Russia, France and the United States," the Azerbaijani parliamentarian noted.
