Day.Az interview with Alexander Dugin, Director of the Center for Conservative Studies at the School of Sociology, Moscow State University, leader of the International Eurasian Movement and famous Russian political expert.
A couple of days ago Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said liberation of seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenia has already been resolved and this issue is not discussed any more with the much emphasis to be laid on liberation of Kalbajar and Lachin regions. In your opinion, is it possible to predict some timeframes of liberation of the Armenia-occupied lands? The fact is that Armenia is trying to bargain and to liberate the occupied territories around Nagorno-Karabakh if only Azerbaijan recognizes “Nagorno Karabakh Republic". The international community has failed so far to make Armenia to abandon its preconditions. Moreover, in their preconditions, they are trying to rely on Russia, the United States and the West.
However, one should understand this option does not suit Azerbaijani public which will never accept the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh under any circumstances.
As a result, Armenian government will deliberately frustrate all possible negotiations to prevent them to move forward.
Today, every step forward in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is beneficial for Azerbaijan. But Armenia is fully satisfied with the current status quo amid current ethnic balance in the occupied territories, which means only the Armenians and not a single non-Armenian should live there.
It is possible to involve Armenians into talks and make them to free occupied lands around Nagorno-Karabakh only by promising them to agree with Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence. Washington is doing exactly this and Hillary Clinton talked exactly about this during her recent visit to Yerevan.
In your opinion, is the United States unaware that Azerbaijan will never accept this? Of course, it understands. I am confident that in Yerevan Clinton promised to do her best to get Nagorno-Karabakh recognized in future in case Armenia liberates the remaining occupied lands. But in Baku she says that the United States makes every effort to help Azerbaijan to recover control over all occupied lands. The U.S. deceives both parties trying to alienate the conflicting sides from Russia. This is true goal of the United States. Of course, it will never recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. At the same time, it will not make any effort to help Azerbaijan to get back its territories around Nagorno-Karabakh either.
Worthy of note is that the West will never recognize mono-ethnic “Karabakh Republic” de-jure. The opposite may happen only in case Armenia takes tough anti-Russia stance.
Under other circumstances, nobody will recognize "NKR" as the world understands that Armenians have created a mono-ethnic entity in occupied Azerbaijani territories. The same thing they have created in Armenia. This is generally a unique case.
How do you assess the joint statement by leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries made at the G-8 summit in Canada?I believe that this is nothing but a declarative statement. Moscow, along with Europe and America, demonstrates that it advocates a peaceful solution to the problem. This statement is far from real.
Azerbaijan has all the legal norms to resolve Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan is determined to finally resolve this issue and closely watches what is happening around.
These statements do not influence Armenians. They have a different logic. They ignore any form of discussion on this topic. Therefore, all parties should demand Armenia to take steps to resolve the problem.
