Azerbaijani FM paid official visit to Pakistan

Foreign minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov visited Islamabad on Tuesday, where he met with Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Senate chairman Farooq Hamid Naek.
During the meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the sides praised the current level of relationship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. They said relations between the two countries were deeply rooted in history. Mahmood Qureshi stressed the necessity of development of economic and cultural cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

He said official Islamabad unambiguously supports Azerbaijan`s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding this position will remain unchanged. He also thanked Azerbaijan for backing Pakistan on the Kashmir question.

Mammadyarov, in turn, said Azerbaijan and Pakistan should use their great potential to expand political, economic and cultural cooperation.

He appreciated the fact that Pakistan supports Azerbaijan`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mammadyarov pointed out, that Azerbaijan and Pakistan back each-other within international organizations. He added, that official Baku considers that the resolutions adopted by the United Nations on the Kashmir issue must be implemented.

The talks also revolved around the ongoing processes in the region, bilateral and multilateral relations. The same day, Mammadyarov met Senate chairman Farooq Hamid Naek. They stressed the importance of reciprocal visits by the two countries` officials. Mammadyarov also underlined the importance of interparliamentary ties.

During the visit, Mammadyarov attended the opening of Azerbaijan`s embassy complex in Islamabad constructed in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev. Mammadyarov cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the complex and put flowers at a bust of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the foyer.

The ceremony brought together MPs, senators, intellectuals, officials, diplomats and others.
Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Pakistan Eynulla Madatli made a speech at the event, saying the complex had been built with support and care of President Ilham Aliyev. Also addressing the event were Minister Mammadyarov and Pakistani State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan.
