PACE chairman expressed his view on pre-election situation in Azerbaijan

Chairman of the CE Parliamentary Assembly Movlud Chavushoglu appreciated pre-election situation in Azerbaijan.
"I appreciate the political atmosphere in Azerbaijan before the elections. All issues related to the democratic, free and fair elections were discussed during the visit to Azerbaijan," Chavushoglu said at a press conference within the PACE spring session today.

Head of the organization highlighted a sincere desire of the Azerbaijani authorities to hold elections in an atmosphere of transparency, democracy and free will of people.

"The governmental circles have promised to take all necessary measures to achieve similar conditions in the next parliamentary elections," he said.

He said that the issues of political prisoners, arrested journalists were discussed at the meetings. "Positive results are expected. I discussed these issues at the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev," Chavushoglu said.

The PACE chairman paid official visit to Azerbaijan in mid-April. During the visit, meetings were held with officials of the country and representatives of political parties.

The Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year.
