Transparency International report is unjust towards Azerbaijan: ruling party official

19 November 2009 [10:23] - TODAY.AZ
“It is not known based on what criteria the Transparency International ranked the developing Azerbaijan in the last place. This report has not been prepared in a fair way,” deputy chairman of New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Ali Ahmadov said.

Commenting on Transparency International report in which Azerbaijan ranks143rd for the index of corruption, Ahmadov said the representatives of all international organizations have stated on numerous occasions that there can not be corruption where there is development or development is impossible where there is corruption.

“The whole world unambiguously admits that Azerbaijan is developing rapidly. Then based on what criteria does this organization puts Azerbaijan in the 143rd place? I think such an approach is wrong. Some organizations make these reports having various purposes with regard to some countries. I suppose there may a purpose in this respect as well,” he said.

As regards Andreas Gross, former rapporteur of the Council of Europe for Azerbaijan, who described Azerbaijan as the country with the worst corruption situation among the 47 member states, Ahmadov said it is personal views of Andreas Gross.

“Taking into account Gross’ attitude towards Azerbaijan, we can say that his statement does not reflect Azerbaijan’s realities at all,” he said.
