Aktau summit was fruitless: political expert

14 September 2009 [17:24] - TODAY.AZ
“I think the Aktau meeting of the Caspian littoral states was useful,” Azerbaijani political expert Rasim Musabayov said commenting on results of the Aktau summit of the Caspian littoral states.
“Although I think that Aktau meeting failed to reach any practical results both in four-way format and in bilateral talks,” he said.

“Russia, as far as I can judge from media reports, has not reached a specific agreement with Turkmenistan on resuming supply of Turkmen gas,” the political expert said.

"Similarly, as far as I can judge by outward appearances, the Turkmen-Azerbaijani dialogue at Aktau has also been counter-productive,” he  added.

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan failed to reach a mutually acceptable solution on the issue of interests in the Caspian, Musabayov said.

“"But, nevertheless, the dialogue is important and the mere fact that these issues are negotiated at the highest level and positions become clearer and clearer is very important. I think that experts will be working further,” the political expert said.
