EU high commissioner: Eastern Partnership program not aims to resolve conflicts

07 August 2009 [16:48] - TODAY.AZ
“Eastern Partnership program has not been destined to solve conflicts."
"Conflicts should be solved within the existing format of negotiations,” said EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana.

“The European Union has already been involved in the settlement of the conflicts in eastern neighboring countries. EU plays an active role in the international Geneva discussions in connection with Georgia. We are taking an active part in ‘5+2’ format talks concerning Transdniestria, and fully support OSCE Minsk Group on Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The EU special representatives on Georgia, South Caucasus and Moldova often visit the regions and assist the conflicting parties to find solution," Gazeta.ru quoted Solana as saying.

“Multinational format of the Eastern Partnership offers good opportunities to discuss these issues,” he said.
