Azerbaijani opposition lacks popular support: state official

“I can say with confidence that Azerbaijan has almost fulfilled all commitments,” ruling New Azerbaijan Party Deputy Executive Secretary and member of parliament Siyavush Novruzov said.

He said along with improving electoral legislation, steps have been taken to conduct fair, free and transparent elections.

Novruzov said he does not see major rival among opposition parties in a run up to the municipal elections.

“The opposition lacks popular support. We consider none of the opposition parties to be our rival,” he said.
