Armenian FM: If Turkey wants to help a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the surest way is not to intervene in resolving this issue

According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Nalbandian commented on the statement by the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Turkey does not open borders with Armenia until the Karabakh conflict settlement.

The Armenian Foreign Minister recalled that the negotiations on settlement of the Karabakh conflict are mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group on the basis of Madrid proposals, and the parties try to reconcile their positions.

"If Turkey wants to help the peaceful resolution of conflict, the surest way is not to intervene in resolving this issue",said the Minister.

Nalbandian and Fall exchanged views on the Karabakh settlement, stressing the need for a peaceful settlement based on the norms and principles of international law.

During the meeting they also discussed trends of expanding cooperation between Armenia and the UK, the opportunities for greater interaction between the foreign ministries of both countries.

At the suggestion of the British side, it was agreed to hold regular meetings between the Armenian and UK Foreign Ministries.

Referring to the process to settle the Armenian-Turkish relations, Fall welcomed the reported progress in this direction and expressed hope that parties will soon begin implementation of agreements.
