President of Azerbaijan meets Italian Prime Minister - UPDATED

Cooperation in the energy sector between Azerbaijan and Italy, in particular, prospects of supply of Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz field to Italy via Turkey and Greece is being discussed at the meeting of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi, said the press service for the Azerbaijani embassy to Italy, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

The talks held in Palazzo Chigi will also focus on the state of bilateral relations and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy and resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

On November 25, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev met at his temporary residence, the Westin Excelsior Rome hotel, with Chief Executive Officer of Italian Edison company Umberto Quadrino, reports Day.Az with reference to AzerTac.

They discussed prospects for energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Edison.

On the same day, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev was interviewed at his temporary residence in Rome by the Rai International TV.

The Head of State responded to a wide range of questions, including Azerbaijan-Italy relations, Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan`s rapid economic progress, the country`s achievements in the energy field, regional cooperation, Azerbaijan`s contribution to ensuring energy security of Europe, and involvement of Italian companies in Azerbaijan`s economy.

President Ilham Aliyev`s official visit to Italy is underway.
