Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli: "Term of presidency will not be increased in Azerbaijan"

"The present Constitution reflects the most optimal terms of ruling and therefore does not need changes", said Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli, chairman of the steering committee of the Aydinlar party, former presidential candidate, commenting on the proposal of deputy chairman of the Yeni Azerbaijan party about elimination of the ban for election of a person as a president for more than twice, as this restricts the electoral right of the people.

He said ten years are enough for ruling over the country.

"This is not the first time such proposals are made. When Heydar Aliyev was a president, there was also a demand to increase the presidency term, but  it was not executed. I do not think that such a proposal will be applied this time. The presidency term will not be increased in Azerbaijan.

Moreover, as far as I know the government is not discussing this issue at the moment. This is just a proposal of the Yeni Azerbaijan party", noted he.
