In the process of the Georgian-Russian conflict Armenia should take a stance, which will not damage its national security, said chairman of the Democratic Party of Armenia Aram Sargsyan.

"If the American program came true and Russia was defeated, that is South Ossetia remained within the Georgian borders, the Armenian status would have fully changed in the geopolitical sense. In this case, we would have had to beg Turkey to open borders", noted he.
Moreover, under such script, Azerbaijan would have created additional obstacles for Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. Sargsyan does not doubt that if Georgia won, Azerbaijan would have launched hostilities against the self-declared "Nagorno Karabakh Republic".
Considering the communication dependence of Armenian economy on Georgia, he said: "I think that concerns about price hike due to closed roads are unfounded. The port will operate, Russia would not want its real partner Armenia to be caught in such a deadlock".
Passing to the question, whether in case independence of South Ossetia is recognized, this may influence the independence of "Nagorno Karabakh Republic, Sargsyan noted that in this case Armenia will have a chance to present to the world its real position on Nagorno Karabakh.
"If today it is possible to speak of the history of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the situation dictates to our Foreign Ministry to change its course completely-we can not hold talks with Azerbaijan on the status of "Nagorno Karabakh Republic", as this issue should be settled by results of referendum".
